West Delaware’s Rickey Named Finalist for “Iowa Superintendent of Year”

West Delaware’s superintendent has received some special recognition on the state level.

Dr. Kristen Rickey was selected as a finalist for the 2017-2018 Iowa Superintendent of the Year award.

The School Administrators of Iowa, who sponsor the award, say West Delaware deserves to be recognized for recently making many advancements in its work to realize the school district’s vision of relationships, challenging academics and 21st century skills. Recent accomplishments include the development of a fully inclusive preschool/early childhood special education classroom and receiving a 25-thousand dollar STEM BEST grant to develop more robust school-business partnerships. West Delaware has also implemented one-to-one student computers, established a robotics team and constructed an animal agriculture lab facility.

Dr. Rickey was nominated for the award by her peers. Rickey has worked in education for 27 years in a variety of roles, including as a special education teacher, principal and college instructor. She has served as West Delaware Superintendent for the past seven years.

The School Administrators of Iowa will recognize Rickey for being a finalist for the award, along with Pella Superintendent Greg Ebeling, who was selected as the award winner.
