Monticello has been named a Main Street Iowa Community.
The Iowa Economic Development Authority announced the designation on Tuesday – and Monticello Mayor Dave Goedken says they couldn’t be more thrilled.
Monticello and Albia join only 53 other Main Street Iowa communities across the state, with only two communities receiving the designation every two years. Iowa Economic Development Authority spokesperson Staci Ballard says Monticello’s designation is actually a comeback story.
Since its inception, the Main Street Iowa program has generated more than two-point-four billion dollars in private investment, more than five thousand new businesses and nearly 16,000 jobs. Mayor Goedken says being named a Main Street Iowa Community will be a huge benefit to Monticello.
Goedken says he’s proud to call Monticello home.
Monticello will celebrate its new Main Street Iowa Community designation on Wednesday, August 10th at 1 pm at Monticello’s Pocket Park.
