Monticello School District Awarded Grant to Establish Therapeutic Classrooms

Monticello is one of ten school districts awarded a grant to establish therapeutic classrooms.

The Iowa Department of Education gifted over $2.3 million in competitive grants to establish the therapeutic classrooms for learners whose social-emotional or behavioral needs impact their ability to be successful in their current learning environment.

Barb Anderson is the Ed Department’s consultant for social-emotional-behavioral health:

The Therapeutic Classroom Incentive Grant was established through state legislation signed into law in 2020 and is part of a statewide effort to increase mental health supports for children, youth and families. Therapeutic supports include such things as social-emotional skill building, skills to cope with stress and trauma, mental health treatment and crisis intervention and follow-up.

This is the second round of funds.
