Worthington Woman Wins Delaware County Pork Board’s Pie Contest

A Worthington woman has won the Delaware County Pork Producers’ Annual “Bake It With Lard” Pie Contest.

Doris McAllister’s pecan pie was chosen by the judges from dozens of entries during the event at the Delaware County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Manchester on Saturday night.

McAllister’s award-winning pie was purchased by Karl Keuter for $375 in the pie auction that followed the contest.

McAllister also won 2nd and 4th place in the contest with her apple and caramel apple pies, with Lindsey Manternach winning 3rd for her peach pie, Jennifer Zumbach receiving 5th for her red raspberry pie and Shirley Helmrichs taking 6th place for her pecan pie.

McAllister’s 4th place caramel apple pie brought in the most money of the night, with Al Monaghan and Simon’s Grain and Feed bidding $950.

The pie auction raised over $30,000 for the Delaware County Pork Producers, with the money to be used for pork promotion, education, scholarships and other projects.

The Pork Producers also crowned new little royalty at the event. Michael Fortman of Earlville, the son of Kyle and Erica Fortman, was named Little Sir Hamalot. Layla Linderwell of Manchester, the daughter of Austin and Jessica Linderwell, was named Little Miss Pigtails.
