Illegal Burning Becoming Issue in Manchester Following Storm Clean-up

Manchester officials say they’ve noticed some illegal burning taking place in the city limits lately.

Acting Fire Chief Randy Rattenborg says it’s been an issue since the March 31st tornado as some residents are burning storm debris on their property.

Manchester Police Chief Jim Hauschild says the City only allows recreational fires – no burning of leaves, grass, scrap lumber or other debris. The fire must be contained within a fire ring and cannot be left unattended.

Rattenborg says if you have brush or vegetative debris, it needs to be taken to the brush dump – it cannot be burned within Manchester’s city limits.

If there is a complaint about burning in town, Manchester Police will check it out and the fire department may be called.
