Colesburg Community Says Goodbye to Longtime Business Owner

The Colesburg community is saying goodbye to a longtime business owner.

Ronnie Willie of Garber passed away last Thursday at the Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City. He was 74.

Ronnie and his wife, Joyce, operated the Anchor Inn in Garber until purchasing JR Willie’s in Colesburg. They owned and operated JR Willie’s for nearly 40 years.

Ronnie had also served in several other roles in the community over the years – including as a Clayton County Supervisor, president of the Elkport Garber Community Club, a fireman in both Garber and Colesburg and a member of the Colesburg Commercial Club. He was the annual announcer of the Colesburg 4th of July parade and festivities.

Funeral services for Ronnie were held Monday morning at the Elkport Garber Community Center, with burial with military rites in the Mount Harmony Cemetery in rural Elkport.
