Storm Spotter Classes Being Held Around Area
The National Weather Service is seeking volunteers to be trained to be storm spotters for the spring severe weather season.
In-person and virtual weather spotter training have begun and will continue through early April.
Several in-person classes will be held in the KMCH listening area, including:
- The Linn County Spotter Training on Saturday, March 23rd at 1 pm at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marion
- The Buchanan County Spotter Training on Monday, March 25th at 7 pm at the new Emergency Operations Center in Independence
- The Dubuque County Spotter Training on Tuesday, March 26th at 6 pm at Dubuque County Emergency Management in Dubuque
You may attend a class in any location regardless of where you live. The classes are about two hours long. The training is free and open to the public.
A virtual class is coming up on Tuesday, March 19th at 2 pm.

The Edgewood Fire Department is also hosting a Storm Spotter Training tonight at the Edgewood Fire Station at 6:30 pm. This is open to all departments, as well as the public.
