Severe Storms Expected Across Eastern Iowa Today

Severe storms are expected across eastern Iowa today.

A round of isolated thunderstorms moved through parts of the state early this morning, but the main threat for severe weather remains this afternoon and evening – mainly between noon and 11 pm.

The Storm Prediction Center continues to list most of the KMCH listening area under a Level 3 Enhanced Risk for severe weather today.

The National Weather Service says the severe weather could come in two separate lines of storms. All severe weather hazards are possible, including large hail, tornadoes and damaging wind gusts.

It’s important to note that the NOAA Weather Radio serving the Cedar Rapids area is currently off the air. Technicians are continuing to troubleshoot, but the restoration time is currently unknown. The National Weather Service says this is why it’s a good idea to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Mix 94.7 KMCH will have live weather updates throughout the day and break in with live local severe weather coverage if warnings are issued.
