Boy Scouts Plant 1,000 Seedling Trees at Milo Forest Area

Boy Scouts from several counties in northeast Iowa recently gathered to participate in their spring Dellaykee District camporee at Baileys Ford Park.

As a community service project, the scouts participated in planting one thousand seedling trees at the Milo Forest area. There were about 60 scouts and adults, along with conservation employees and other community volunteers, who also helped with this project.

Iowa DNR Forester Alex Hoffman presented a program on tree varieties and the importance of forest areas for the enjoyment of the public, as well as wildlife habitat.

County conservation has recently harvested trees from this area due to wind damage and the mature age of the trees. The cost of replanting for this project was funded from the sale of harvested trees. All harvest and replanting activities at this area are under the management plan of the Iowa DNR District Forester and adopted by the County Conservation Board.
