Manchester’s Shelly Park Renovations to Start This Spring

Manchester’s Shelly Park will be getting a complete makeover by the time summer arrives.

Last night, the Manchester City Council approved a contract for renovations at the park, which is nestled between the Marion Street Bridge and Riverbend Pub & Grill right along the Whitewater Park.

City Manager Tim Vick says one of the good things about the Shelly Park renovations is that more people will be able to use the space.

The City’s contract with Eastern Iowa Excavating came in nearly $50,000 below the architect’s estimate at just over $281,000. And a grant will help pay for the project.

As for the beloved gazebo and large cottonwood tree that are currently at Shelly Park – the City says they’re still looking for someone to move the gazebo to a new location, but the tree – which is hollow – will need to come down.
