Maurice Vincent Hennessey – Ryan

Maurice Vincent Hennessey, 96, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, near Anamosa.

He was born on May 22, 1927, in Kiene, the son of Maurice and Anna (Killeas) Hennessey. Maurice attended country school and graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Independence. He was inducted into the United States Navy in November 1945 and was honorably discharged and then was inducted into the United States Army in March 1952 and was honorably discharged in May of 1953. He worked as a machinist after his military service. Maurice served in the Iowa Statehouse representing district 22 from 1973-1975. He also served as city councilman, mayor of the city of Ryan and was the Delaware County Crime Commission Project Director. Maurice was a man of strong beliefs and an avid reader.

He is survived by two sisters, Sr. Gwen Hennessey, OSF of Dubuque and Marilyn McElligott of Waterloo; several nieces and nephews; many friends and neighbors.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters, Geraldine Welter, Monica Krebsbach, Sister Miriam Hennessey, Sister Dorothy Hennessey, Mary June McDonald, Catherine DeLucia; six brothers, David, Jack, James, Anthony “Tom”, Father Ron Hennessey, and Dr Larry Hennessey.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan, Iowa, with Reverend Gabriel Anderson presiding.

Visitation: 9:00-10:30 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan, Iowa.
