One Person Dies in Downtown Cascade Fire

One person has died in a fire in downtown Cascade.

The fire broke out Wednesday night around 9 pm at 206 1st Avenue – a downtown building that housed a business, Interior Elements, on the first floor and an apartment on the second floor. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says they responded, along with Cascade PD, the State Fire Marshal’s Office and fire departments from Cascade, Worthington, Bernard, Farley, Monticello and Dubuque.

The Sheriff’s Office says the building had heavy smoke coming from it when fire crews arrived. They were able to extinguish the fire, but one person did not survive. The victim’s name is being withheld at this time until family has been notified.

The building, estimated at $80,000, is a total loss.

The Sheriff’s Office says the exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time – it does not appear suspicious, but remains under investigation.
