The annual spring field day at Iowa State University’s Northeast Research and Demonstration Farm in Nashua, Iowa, will be held from 1-4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21. The field day will feature Iowa State University Extension and Outreach experts, who will speak on a variety of current topics in agriculture. The event is free to attend and open to the public, with no prior registration required.
Chad Hart, professor in economics and extension grain markets specialist at Iowa State, will begin the program by providing his insights on current and future agricultural markets. Bob Hartzler, Iowa State University professor (emeritus) and extension weed specialist, will then discuss various weed management strategies, including management strategies for waterhemp.
Later, Randall Cass, extension entomologist with ISU Extension and Outreach, will provide updates on pollinator habitat establishment and management. Finally, Ed Zaworski, plant pathologist for the Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic at Iowa State, will review relevant crop diseases for the 2023 growing season in northeast Iowa, and give an update on his work at the diagnostic clinic.
The field day is free and open to the public. Participants are instructed to meet at the Borlaug Learning Center Headquarters on Iowa State’s Northeast Research Farm and Demonstration Farm.
To find the Borlaug Learning Center Headquarters, enter from Nashua at the junction of Highway 218 (Exit 220) and County Road B60. Then, go west on county road B60 for 1.1 miles to Windfall Ave., then south 1 mile to 290th St. Finally, head east 0.2 miles to the farm.
