Crews Fight Field Fire South of Manchester on Thursday

Crews fought a field fire south of Manchester on Thursday.

Manchester Fire Chief Mike Ryan says they were called to Dan Zumbach’s farm just west of Highway 13 shortly before 1:30 pm.

A fire started on the home farm and quickly spread into standing corn. Ryan, Masonville and Delhi also responded to the scene, along with a Delaware County Roads maintainer. Fellow farmers also showed up with a couple of disks to help stop the fire from spreading.

Chief Ryan says the fire was caused by burning trash at the farmstead.

Around 60 acres are a total loss. There was no damage to surrounding buildings and no injuries.
