Investigation into Driving Incident in Buchanan County

Charges are pending following an incident in Buchanan County last week.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says last Tuesday night around 8:15 pm, they received a 911 report of a vehicle aggressively following another vehicle on Highway 20.

Deputies were dispatched to the area, with the dispatcher staying on the phone with the caller and telling her to take the next exit. When the caller did so, the other vehicle continued to follow – with the caller turning northbound on Highway 187 and then westbound on 210th Street and the other vehicle still following.

The caller then reported that the other vehicle had gone into the ditch, but thought that the driver was able to drive back out of the ditch. Deputies located the caller and attempted to locate the other vehicle. After a few minutes, a Sheriff’s Deputy found a male covered in blood and walking along the roadway in the 3000 block of 210th Street. Shortly after, a vehicle was found in a farm field, engulfed in flames.

According to the investigation, a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Andrew Anderson of Dubuque was traveling westbound in the 3000 block of 210th Street when he lost control of the pickup and entered the ditch. Anderson was able to drive the pickup back out of the ditch and onto the roadway before he lost control again. This time, the pickup entered the ditch and rolled into a farm field before catching fire.

Anderson was medically evaluated at the scene and transported to Regional Medical Center in Manchester with unspecified injuries.

This incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
