Hopkinton Library Adds New Sensory Room for Community

The Hopkinton Public Library has brought something new to its community – and the surrounding area.

It’s called a sensory room. Library Director Kim Albright explains:

Albright says that’s what they’re trying to tailor the experience around at the library in Hopkinton.

Sensory rooms – especially public ones – aren’t readily available here in Iowa. Albright recognized that – and wanted to bring this service to Hopkinton so residents could find some comfort right here in their own community.

And a grant helped the Hopkinton Public Library make the sensory room a reality.

The sensory room officially opened just over a week ago. The library is working on an online booking system, with half-hour or one hour slots available. Albright says there’s been a lot of excitement over this new offering – and it’s just one of many ideas the Hopkinton Public Library has brought to their community recently. Whether it’s a sensory room, escape rooms or partnering with the Delaware County Historical Society for a haunting on the Lenox College Campus, the Hopkinton Public Library is always thinking outside the box.
