Krogmann Denied Third Trial on Attempted Murder Conviction

The Iowa Supreme Court has denied a Manchester man a third trial on his attempted murder conviction.

Bob Krogmann was convicted of shooting and seriously injuring his former girlfriend, Jean Smith, in 2009.

He was granted a new trial over an issue involving his frozen finances and was convicted a second time in 2021.

The Court of Appeals ruled Krogmann should get a third trial after he said a video interview with police should have been allowed in court to help his diminished capacity defense.

While the Supreme Court says that video should have been allowed, they ruled on Friday that the video would not have provided any meaningful help to Krogmann’s claim that he had diminished capacity at the time of the shooting.

Krogmann is currently incarcerated in the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility.
