Two Arrested after NYE Group Fight in Fayette County

Fayette County deputies responded to a large fight that broke out a few minutes into the new year involving baseball bats and a broken windshield.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says they took a 911 call early Monday around 12:15 am of a physical altercation between numerous people in Hawkeye near East Burger Street.

An investigation found that two people involved in the altercation were hit by a moving vehicle. They have not been identified.

The Sheriff’s Office says two people have been taken into custody. 20-year old Nathaniel Ryan Steele of Independence was arrested and charged with two counts of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon and 19-year old Margarett Lee Osterhaus of Elkader was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury. Both Steele and Osterhaus were also charged with Disorderly Conduct. 

No major injuries were reported in the altercation.
