Manchester Musical Trio & Legion Donate to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight was in Manchester on Wednesday morning to accept donations from two Manchester groups.

The musical trio, Darrell, Jacque and Connie, donated $3,330, which was raised during a special Christmas concert they hosted at Castle Theatre last month. The group has performed numerous times at the Legion and other venues, but decided to look into the theater after someone suggested it to them.

Manchester Legion Commander Warren Coates says many of the Legion’s veterans are among those who have been fortunate enough to go on an Honor Flight.

The Manchester Legion also donated to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, presenting a check for five hundred dollars. Coates says the funds come from various fundraisers throughout the year.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Director Dick Bell says the donations are very much appreciated.

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, based in Cedar Rapids, has been taking nearly one hundred veterans on every flight since 2009. Any veteran is welcome to apply. There’s about a two-year wait right now – but the veterans who have been on the flight will tell you it’s worth it.

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight will be taking its 50th flight on May 1st.
