Beckman Catholic Students Share Research at Heartland Symposium

Several Beckman Catholic science students recently shared their research at the Heartland Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in Iowa City.

The symposium accepted research projects for a scholarship competition held February 26th and 27th. The Heartland Junior Science and Humanities Symposium program is the premiere high school science competition in Iowa and Nebraska. Students compete for scholarships and recognition by presenting the results of their original research projects before a panel of judges and an audience of their peers. Students also had the opportunity to visit cutting-edge university research labs, hear from university researchers about their work and career paths, and network with their peers.

Alexander Kerper and Valerie Rahe of Beckman Catholic High School were two of the fourteen presenters chosen from across Iowa and Nebraska for this year’s event.

Alexander presented his work entitled, “Soil Parameters Utilizing a Wheatgrass Model of Kernza®” and Valerie presented her research on “Fertilizer Type and Concentration Associated with Crop Physiology Phase II”.

Alexander and Valerie were joined by several other Beckman Catholic students who attended the symposium.
