Dubuque Law Enforcement Center Instituting New Lobby Hours Policy

The Dubuque Law Enforcement Center is instituting a new policy for their lobby hours.

Effective immediately, the inner lobby doors will be locked from 4:30 pm to 8 am and the outer lobby doors to the sidewalk will be locked from 6 pm to 8 am.

Anyone who needs to conduct after-hours business at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center is still welcome to do so. Visitors can use the recently installed call button/speaker and dispatch to remotely unlock the doors so you can file complaints, speak to an officer/deputy, put money on inmate accounts, etc.

For many years, the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center has served as a temporary refuge for homeless individuals who needed an occasional place to stay the night, particularly during the winter months. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says unfortunately, over the past few months, several individuals have abused this privilege, staying here day after day, leaving their trash and personal items lying around, and making citizens uncomfortable or afraid to come in to conduct business.

The Sheriff’s Office says although they recognize the challenges and vulnerabilities of this segment of our population, they can no longer tolerate this as an organization.
