Dyersville Area Families Invited to Free Family Literacy Night

Families in the Dyersville area are invited to a free family literacy night tonight.

The event is hosted by the Dyersville Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. Coordinator Jessica Pape says it’s a great way for families to come together to learn new ways to make reading fun and a normal part of their life.

Families of pre-school and school-age children can stop by Dyersville Elementary tonight at 5:30 pm for this one hour event.

Families who attend will receive a free meal and hear a short presentation from Parents As Teachers on the topic of incorporating literacy into everyday activities. Each child will also be able to take home a free book to add to their home library.

Funding for this event was made possible thanks to Alliant Energy and Black Hills Energy.

The goal of the national Campaign for Grade-Level Reading initiative is to ensure that all children succeed in school and graduate prepared for college, a career, and active citizenship. The Campaign focuses on an important predictor of school success and high school graduation: grade-level reading by the end of third grade. The Dyersville Grade-Level Reading Campaign focuses on School Readiness, Attendance and Summer Learning based on community needs and data available from the community.
