Senator Grassley Visits Manchester and Monticello

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley was in Manchester on Monday morning to host a Delaware County town hall meeting.

The Congress is beginning their two-week recess for Easter, giving the 90-year old senator the opportunity to make several visits across the state this week.

Around fifty constituents showed up at the courtroom of the Delaware County Courthouse at 9 am Monday to hear the longtime senator speak and ask him questions. Grassley began his conversation with Delaware County residents by giving an update on the Farm Bill.

He also provided an update on prescription drugs before taking questions from the audience. Several questions from the public centered around illegal immigrants and the border.

Gun control and the Second Amendment was also a popular topic.

Some of the other topics brought up by Delaware County residents include aid to Ukraine, crop insurance, rural healthcare, Proposition 12, the Child Tax Credit, the Inflation Reduction Act and former President Trump’s promise to pardon the January 6th rioters.

Grassley’s Delaware County town hall was part of his annual 99 County Tour across Iowa. His visits to the county have varied over the years, from visiting Regional Medical Center to touring local manufacturers, with his last town hall at the courthouse back in 2018.

After his Delaware County visit, Senator Grassley headed to Monticello for a Q&A with students at Monticello High School – talking about Grassley’s intern program, his schedule and becoming a senator.
