Level 3 Enhanced Risk for Severe Storms on Tuesday

Forecasters say severe weather is a threat overnight into Tuesday.

On Monday afternoon, the Storm Prediction Center upgraded Delaware County and parts of the surrounding area to an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 out of 5).

National Weather Service meteorologist Brad Small:

Two rounds of severe weather are possible in eastern Iowa – the first between 2 and 8 am, with hail likely to be the main threat. The second round is expected Tuesday between 3 and 9 pm, with multiple threats, including tornadoes.

Des Moines set a record high of 88 degrees on Sunday, beating the previous record of 87, set in 2006. Small says highs this week should drop back into the seasonal 50’s and 60’s, with lows in the 30’s and 40’s.
