Sentencing Hearing for Edgewood Woman Involved in Fatal Crash Delayed

The sentencing hearing for an Edgewood woman involved in a fatal UTV crash three years ago has been delayed.

Hanna Meese recently pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter in Delaware County District Court.

Authorities say Meese was driving a UTV on May 2nd, 2021 on Wood Edge Drive when she failed to maintain control while negotiating a curve. Both she and her passenger, Jordan Cabalka of Edgewood, were ejected.

Cabalka died at the scene. Meese suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Meese is seeking a deferred judgment, while the State is seeking a suspended sentence.

The sentencing hearing was scheduled to take place on Tuesday morning, but Delaware County Attorney John Bernau says the judge is requesting additional information through a pre-sentence investigation before moving forward.

The hearing will be rescheduled.
