Charles Edward Lane – Manchester

Charles Edward Lane, 82, of Manchester, Iowa, went to meet his Lord and Savior Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

He was born on April 13, 1942, in Manchester, the son of Edward and
Lorrayne (Bloom) Lane. The family lived in Winthrop in his early childhood, then was educated in Davenport and Cedar Rapids, graduating from Washington High School in 1960. Charles then entered the United States Marine
Corps. He became a Christian while in boot camp in San Diego, California. Charles was stationed in Kaneohe Bay,
Oahu. He served in the Readiness Unit that would in a moments notice board Naval ships where they would be sent to Okinawa, Philippines, Japan and China.

Returning to Iowa, he married the love of his life, Judith Seeks on April 28, 1963, at St. John’s Methodist Church in Davenport. His last assignment was Quantico, Virginia, where he was honorably discharged in 1964. Charles and
Judy returned to Manchester to farm, and he also was employed as a machinist at Cherry Burrell (now Cedar
Rapids International Paper) retiring in 2000. After a time, he was employed at the West Delaware Middle School
doing custodial work and enjoyed being with the staff and students for ten years, retiring in 2014.
Charles was a member of The Stone Church (formerly First Baptist church). He served in various capacities over
the last 60 years. Charles was a gentle and patient man who loved Jesus and his family. He considered everyone he met a friend. Charles enjoyed reading the Bible, Western movies and music, family celebrations, the grandkids
activities, watching wrestling meets, as he was a wrestler in high school and in the Marine Corps. He loved making his famous chili and delicious Christmas candy to share with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife of almost 61 years, Judy Lane of Manchester; his five children, Westley (Kim) Lane of
Marion, Scott (Kristi) Lane of Oregon, Wisconsin, Shannon (Melody) Lane of Naperville, Illinois, Laura Schuman of Manchester, and Clayton (Autumn) Lane of Dyersville; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters,
Janet (Warren) Dunkel of Des Moines, and Cindi (Norman) Lane-Prather of Ida Grove; in-laws, James (Rosie) Seeks of Mercer Island, Washington, and Janell (Marvin) Miller of Crittenden, Kentucky; and his many nieces, nephews,
and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Frank and Juanita Seeks; and sister-in-law, Jeri
(Steve) Jaco.
