Ag Informer – Record Year for DelCo Fair Auction

The 2022 4-H and FFA livestock sale totaled $442,219.35 at the Delaware County Fair.  

The 4-H and FFA market beef, swine, sheep, and goat exhibitors were given the opportunity to sell their project animal in the Livestock Auction held on Saturday, July 16th during the Delaware County Fair.  Many exhibitors walked their market animal through the sale ring for local buyers to purchase. We had another record year of sales and support from local buyers.

The beef sale included 105 animals that were sold for a total of $354,119.40 with an average sale price of $3,372.57 and $2.45 per pound. The Grand Champion Market Beef was exhibited by Garrison Gillihan.

73 hogs were sold in the swine auction for a total of $73,514.25 with an average price of $3.64 per pound. The average price paid per hog was approximately $1,007. The Grand Champion Market Barrow was exhibited by Trudy Loecke and the Grand Champion Market Gilt was exhibited by Trudy Loecke. The Grand Champion Derby Barrow was exhibited by Ella Cole and the Grand Champion Derby Gilt was exhibited by Ella Cole. The Grand Champion Breeding Gilt was exhibited by Maria Spersflage.

In the sheep division, 15 sheep were sold by 4-H and FFA youth for a total of $6,761.45 with an average price of $3.45 per pound. The average price per animal was $448.76. The Grand Champion Market Lamb was exhibited by Bianka Ronnebaum.

A total of 13 goats were sold for a total $7,854.25. The average price per animal was $604.17 with an average price per pound of $7.90. The Grand Champion Market Goat was exhibited by Braden Ronnebaum.

A huge thank you to the team of auctioneers including Dave Waterhouse, Jerry Maker, Mike Loecke, and Kaleb Kruse.  The Delaware County Bankers Association for providing sale clerks.  We also want to thank our local lockers including the Edgewood Locker, Dan’s Locker, the Winthrop Locker, and West Linden for hauling and processing the animals.  And a big thank you to all of the Livestock Auction buyers and community for the support of our youth!
