Buchanan County Health Center Under Precautionary Lockdown on Saturday

The Buchanan County Health Center was under a precautionary lockdown for a short time on Saturday.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says shortly after 9 am, they were contacted by the Buchanan County Health Center Emergency Room staff that they had a man in their ER with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The shooting reportedly happened at a home in Winthrop and the man was brought in by a private vehicle.

Deputies were dispatched to conduct an initial investigation. The Buchanan County Health Center went into a precautionary lockdown because not all parties involved were accounted for at the time. Based upon information collected at the hospital, the investigation then moved to a residence in the 200 block of West 220th Street in Winthrop. 

The man who suffered the gunshot wound was transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for further treatment. His exact condition is unknown.  

At this time, this incident remains under active investigation. This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.  

The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by the Iowa DCI.  More information will be released when the investigation is at a sufficient point to do so.
