MPL: Game Day

January 13 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Manchester Public Library will be holding a game day on Friday, January 13th from 1 to 4 pm. West Delaware has no school that day! The library will have Mario Kart on the Wii available to play, along with various board games for all ages. Adults are welcome to join in on some challenging games also. Refreshments will be provided.

JKPL: Games for Seniors

Senior citizens are invited to come to the James Kennedy Public Library in Dyersville on Friday, January 13th from 2 to 4 pm for an afternoon of games, including playing cards, board games and Wii. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

St. Paul Parish Breakfast and Bake Sale

January 15 @ 7:30 am - 11:30 am

St. Paul Parish will host a hashbrown breakfast and bake sale on Sunday, January 15th from 7:30 to 11:30 am at Gib Gym at St. Paul School in Worthington. Serving sausage (fresh and smoked), hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, rolls, toast and beverages. Adults $8, kids 5-10 $4 and preschool free. Cash raffle with other prizes will also be held.

Manchester Medicaid Opposition Rally

January 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

There will be a rally in Manchester on Sunday, January 15 from noon - 1 pm to show opposition to the proposed cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act. This is in conjunction with rallies being held in all of Iowa's congressional districts and will be held at the corner of E. Main St. and N. Franklin St. This event is sponsored by the Manchester Area Progressive Alliance.

MV Softball Can Drive

January 15 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Maquoketa Valley softball girls will hold a pop can drive on Sunday, January 15th from noon to 4 pm. The drop-off points will be the Delhi, Earlville and Hopkinton schools. The girls will go around those towns on Sunday collecting cans as well. If you have questions, contact Coach Mike Mensen at 920-7021.

Blessed Trinity Cluster Presentation

January 16

The Blessed Trinity Cluster is hosting an evening presentation on mental illness by author Virginia Pillars on Monday, January 16th at 6:30 pm at St. Mary Parish Center's Meeting Room 2 in Manchester. Virginia will share her story as a mother whose daughter was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Her book titled "Broke Brain, Fortified Faith" captures the truth of the journey through the eyes of a loved one. Everyone welcome.

January 18 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

The Manchester Public Library will hold a Library Lego Program on Wednesday, January 18th. Drop in anytime between 1:30 to 3:30 pm and build your own unique creation with the library's legos. Finished creations will then be on display in the children's room.

Manchester Downtown/Riverfront Concept Plan Open House

The City of Manchester will hold an open house for the Downtown/Riverfront Concept Plan on Wednesday, January 18th at 4:30 to 7 pm at the Manchester Fire Station. The public is invited to stop by and share your ideas and opinions on the proposed concept plan for Manchester's riverfront and downtown areas.

Monticello Blood Drive

January 19 @ 11:30 am - 5:30 pm

The Monticello Rotary Club will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive in Monticello on Thursday, January 19th from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Monticello Berndes Center. Walk-ins are welcome.  The Red Cross is giving donors a coupon for a free pint of Culver's frozen custard!

The James Kennedy Public Library in Dyersvill will hold their annual soup supper on Thursday, January 19th from 5 to 8 pm. Serving chili, chicken noodle soup, crackers, bread, brownies and beverages for $5, with soup refills for $1 each. Carryouts available. 50/50 raffle will also be held. Proceeds will be used to support the library's collections.

January 20 - January 23

The James Kennedy Public Library in Dyersville will hold a used book sale in the library basement Friday, January 20th through Monday, January 23rd. Hours are Friday 9 to 5, Saturday 9 to 3, Sunday 1 to 4 and Monday 9 to 7. Bags of books are $2 on the last day of the sale.

The Buchanan County Fair Association will host a Fish and Chicken Fry on Friday, January 20th from 4:30 to 7 pm at the Buchanan County 4-H Building. $10 per person. All proceeds go to fairground building improvements.

A Spaghetti Supper will be held Friday, January 20th from 5 to 8 pm in the Ed-Co Elementary Lunchroom (during the Ed-Co/Clayton Ridge basketball games). Proceeds will go to Kay Jones, who is battling breast cancer.

MV Mini Cat Wrestling Tournament

January 21

The Maquoketa Valley Mini Cat Wrestling Tournament will be held Saturday, January 21st at the high school in Delhi. A four-person round robin tourney, with individual awards to all four places and team trophies to 1st thru 4th places. 4-H Gardening Specialty Club Meeting

January 21

A 4-H Gardening Specialty Club is starting in Delaware County! They'll be meeting on Saturday, January 21st at 10 am at Sue's Flower and Garden Center in Manchester. Succulents will be the topic, so bring a small pot and $4 - $10 for a planting to take home. Planned future events include hoop gardening, community service gardening and traditional 4-H activities. Delhi-Hopkinton Knights of Columbus Soup Supper

The Delhi-Hopkinton Knights of Columbus Soup Supper will be held Saturday, January 21st from 5 to 8:30 pm at St. John Church in Delhi. Knights of Columbus Council 1962 will be sponsoring a right-to-life breakfast on Sunday, January 22nd from 8 to 11:30 am at the St. Mary's Parish Center in Manchester.  A free will offering will be taken to support pro-life organizations.
