Boy Hospitalized after Seriously Injured by Two Dogs in Linn County

A boy remains hospitalized after he was seriously injured by two dogs in Linn County last Friday.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to St. Luke’s Hospital shortly after 10 am Saturday for a child that had been bit by a dog.

The 8-year old boy was at the home of an acquaintance in rural Springville on Friday afternoon when two dogs in the home bit the child multiple times. Both dogs were 3-year old Pit Bull/Mastiff mixed breed males.

The boy suffered multiple severe bite wounds to his head, face, back, legs and arms, which required emergency medical treatment.

Deputies investigated the incident and determined the dogs involved are vicious animals under Linn County Ordinance Section 6-57. The owners have voluntarily surrendered the dogs, which are currently in quarantine.

The owners have two days to appeal this action to the Linn County Board of Supervisors – and if there is no appeal, the dogs will be humanely euthanized.
