James Burney Knott – Manchester

James Burney Knott, 71, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022, in his home with his
family by his side.

Jim spent his life helping others through his work as a psychologist with Keystone AEA, Regional Medical Center,
and Iowa Children’s Hospital Center for Disabilities. He spent his free time with his wife, Rhea, who was by his side
for 47 years. Together they raised four children (Demian, Kelly, Amanda, and Gretchen) and spoiled their two
grandchildren, Harper and Romy Goranson. Jim loved telling stories about growing up in Kansas with his siblings
(Earl, Fay, Roberta, Tom, Nancy, Will, and Gary). He lived a colorful life, from hitchhiking to Colorado, raising goats
and rabbits, running marathons, riding on a tour bus to Thanksgiving, to being the Team Captain for the Butler
Community College Cross-Country Team when they became National Champions in 1970.

In his professional and personal life, Jim loved being there for other people—listening to their stories, giving
guidance when they were struggling, and making sure everyone felt important regardless of their circumstances. In
a crisis of health or heart, Jim knew the words and action to bring comfort.

There are no formal services planned for Jim. Instead, please take the time to stop and genuinely listen to someone
tell their story or lend a hand to someone in need.
