Delaware County Emergency Management has received a special honor from the National Weather Service.
Mike Ryan, who just retired earlier this month as the county’s Emergency Management Coordinator, was honored with the Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador of Excellence award for 2022.
National Weather Service Warning Coordinator Meteorologist Rich Kinney came to Manchester from the Quad Cities to present Ryan with the honor on Wednesday.
Kinney noted that Ryan was key in helping to improve flood monitoring along the Maquoketa River in Delaware County. Ryan has spent the past sixteen years leading Emergency Management and says receiving this honor upon retiring wasn’t something he expected.
