Delaware County is under a burn ban.
The ban on open burning went into effect Saturday morning.
Delaware County Emergency Management Coordinator Mandy Bieber says the dry conditions coupled with gusty, dry winds have created a situation where even a small spark could lead to fires that threaten lives and property.
People can still use their fire pits for recreational fires, and they can still burn their trash in a compliant container. The burn ban does not include the use of outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills or properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh, with no openings greater than one square inch.
The burn ban will be in effect until further notice.
