Carol Ann Ankrom – Masonville

Carol Ann Ankrom, 82, of Masonville, Iowa, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at her home. She was born on January 9, 1940, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of Manuel and Helen (Smith) Fortado. Carol was raised in the Franklin, Illinois, area and graduated from Franklin High School. She then graduated from Passavant Hospital Nursing School in Jacksonville. 

In 1961, Carol was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Charles Ankrom. Four children were born to this union. The family moved to Iowa in 1968 and farmed together for many years. Shortly after their move, Carol began her work as a nurse at Delaware County Memorial Hospital for over 38 years, mostly in the OB department. She helped bring over 1,000 babies into the world. In 2006 she was named as one of Iowa’s 100 Great Nurses. This prestigious designation recognizes exceptional contributions to patients, colleagues, and the profession.

Most important to Carol was her faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Prayer was an important part of her life. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she felt blessed by her close friends and family.  Carol especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts. She was a Red Cross volunteer and the parish nurse at theStone Church. Carol also worked as a substitute nurse at West Delaware Schools and was a classroom volunteer.  She was an AWANA leader for over 20 years.  Carol was a very active and faithful church volunteer.

Survivors left to cherish her memory are her three children, Rod (Michelle) Ankrom of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Mike Ankrom of Fulton, Illinois, and Michele (Jeff) Harris of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Caleb (Megan) Ankrom, Jonathan Ankrom, Joel Ankrom, Jennifer (Matthew) Nelson, Nathan Ankrom, Jarod Harris, and Victoria Harris; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Ellison, Sophia, and Elaina ; two sisters, Janet Konrad and Betty Kuhlman both of Jacksonville, Illinois; sister-in-law, Betty (Gary) Jackson of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Ankrom; her daughter, Sue Ankrom; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Ankrom and Helen Crandall.

Memorial Service:  11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at theStone Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Pastor Rod Ankrom officiating. 

Visitation:  4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, January 2, 2023, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, Iowa. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
