Ag Informer – Congratulations to Delaware Co. Quiz Bowl

Six Dairy Quiz Bowl Teams represented Delaware County well at the 2023 State 4-H Contest at Starmont High School on June 13. Delaware County topped the Senior, Intermediate and Junior divisions for the second year in a row!

The top Senior team went undefeated, earning 1st place after 2 competitive rounds with a combined Senior team from Fayette and Delaware County. They are now eligible to represent Iowa at the National Contest in Louisville, KY this fall! Team members are Alia Domeyer- Delhi (Captain), Haley Ronnebaum- Earlville, Bianka Ronnebaum- Earlville and Dannie Burkle- Earlville. Our second team of Seniors competed as a combined team with Fayette County includes Katherine Comley-Ryan, Conner Davis- Manchester and Ethan Palmer and Natalie Hamlett, Fayette Co.

In the Intermediate division, our top team met each challenge the day brought, finishing undefeated after three rounds! Top team members are Ty Hoeger- Delhi (Captain), Ford Domeyer- Delhi, Braden Ronnebaum- Earlville (Captain) and Madalynn Arnold- Earlville. Our second team finished 5th place in a difficult division after 2 tough matches. Team members are Alison Schulte- Earlville (Captain), Morgan Hoeger- Delhi, Cael Cannon- Dyersville and Chase Cannon- Dyersville.

Our two energetic Junior teams competed well! Members of the top Junior Team are Karl Zumbach- Coggon (Captain), Logan Voelker- Ryan, Cooper Schulte- Earlville and Maggie Hoeger- Delhi. They worked well together as they won both of their matches! Our second team earned second place after competing in four matches. Their only losses were to the first Delaware team. Team members were Caden Cannon- Dyersville (Captain), Tyler Arnold- Earlville, Will Zumbach- Coggon and Katie Voelker- Ryan.

Each year our youth excel on the written test portion and this year was no different! The top 5 individuals in each division were recognized. The top five Juniors were all from Delaware County! Karl Zumbach-1st, Will Zumbach and Cooper Schulte tied-2nd, Tyler Arnold-3rd, Logan Voelker-4th, Caden Cannon-5th. Ty Hoeger tied for 1st Intermediate, Braden Ronnebaum- 5th. In the Senior Division, Haley Ronnebaum earned 2nd, Alia Domeyer-4th and Bianka Ronnebaum- 5th.

Coaching this year’s teams were Jennifer Zumbach, Brian Bagge, Josh Thibadeau, James Goldsmith, Matt Hense, Amanda Engelken and Lane Domeyer. Thank you to the 4-H’ers, parents and those who volunteered time to prepare them for this contest.

About forty youth participated in the quiz bowl contest. The scores of a written exam, team questions and toss-up competition combined to determine the winners of each match in this double elimination event. The Ron Orth 4-H Dairy Endowment Fund provided various awards for the event along with Delaware County 4-H.
