Winthrop Pig Wins Iowa State Fair’s Big Boar Contest

A pig from a farm in Winthrop has won this year’s Big Boar contest at the Iowa State Fair.

Sasquatch, a Red Wattle boar shown by Kehrli Farms, weighed in at 1,012 pounds.

That’s Wilbur Kehrli of Manchester, whose son, Ken, co-owns the winning pig. He says you can have medications and technology in the industry, but taking care of Sasquatch comes down to common sense.

Kehrli says raising hogs is what their family has done for many years.

Competing at the Iowa State Fair brings back a lot of memories for Kehrli.

Second place in the Iowa State Fair’s Big Boar contest was claimed by “Big Joe”, a boar from a Muscatine farm, who weighed in at 894 pounds.
