A Dubuque County deputy was injured after being assaulted by an inmate on Wednesday afternoon.
The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says staff members were moving inmate Jarrel Johnson within the jail when he became resistive. Staff were in the process of placing Johnson in a cell when he struck Deputy Ashlee Hoffman multiple times with a closed fist to the face.
Hoffman was injured and transported to Mercy ER. She has since returned to work.
Johnson faces an assault charge and was held for court.
