Delaware County Dispatcher Honored

A Delaware County 911 dispatcher was honored for her work during the recent shooting in Monticello.

Jessica Kelly, who serves as the 911 dispatch supervisor, was awarded a service commendation from Manchester City Council for single-handedly managing a 911 call on Nov. 7 that ended in the arrest of a man charged with murder in connection with a shooting at a Monticello grocery store.

Kelly orchestrated the response that included Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, Jones County Sheriff’s Department, Manchester Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Monticello Police Department and Hopkinton Fire and EMS.

It’s not the first time Kelly has been awarded for her work. She was named Iowa’s telecommunicator of the year in 2022 for going above and beyond her duties as a head dispatcher when she helped a Minneapolis mother find her abducted daughter in 2020.
