West Delaware, Ed-Co and Maquoketa Valley will be meeting with area legislators tonight.
The school boards from all three districts will be holding a joint work session at the Maquoketa Valley High School Library in Delhi at 5:30 pm.
State legislators from the area who have been invited to attend include Senators Dan Zumbach and Mike Klimesh and Representatives Craig Johnson and Anne Osmundson.
West Delaware Superintendent Dr. Kristen Rickey says she and the board plan to ask the legislators what they see as the biggest issues in education this session and also to specifically address the importance of the AEAs. Rickey says their concern is that legislators are focused on reducing AEAs, potentially without fully understanding the value they bring to rural schools.
Maquoketa Valley and Ed-Co Superintendent Dave Hoeger says he also plans to ask the legislative plans for the Area Education Agencies, as well as plans for preschool and state aid.
Hoeger says the public is welcome to attend tonight’s work session in Delhi.
