Marie Theresia Recker – Manchester

Marie Theresia Recker, 91, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 p.m. with Rosary Service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church with an additional Visitation at church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. with the Reverend Gabriel Anderson officiating. Con-Celebrants include Reverend Douglas Loecke and Reverend Raymond Burkle. Burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Manchester is in charge of arrangements.

Marie was born on December 26, 1932, in Dubuque Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Thekla (Goedken) Burkle. She attended Rural School near her home. Marie married Lloyd Recker on February 6, 1960, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa; six children were born to this union. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm where they raised their family, she was a hard worker. Marie enjoyed working in her garden, exercising and taking care of herself, playing cards, gambling and going to dances with Lloyd. She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, she will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Marie was an active member at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester.

Marie is survived by her children, Michelle Recker of Earlville, Iowa, Bruce Recker of Waterloo, Iowa, Melissa (Mark) Becker of Manchester , Dawn (Tim) Boge of Coggon, Iowa, Kirk (special friend, Michaela) Recker of Hiawatha; grandchildren, Katelyn Recker, Kendallyn (Austin) Blay, Karalyn (Lucas) Obertino, Ashley (Brian) Jasper, Brandon (Jordyn) Becker, Trent Becker, Trevor Boge, Macy Boge and Molly Boge; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Rohen, Astrid, Garrett, Joelle, Lucille, Emmett, Sawyer; daughter-in-law, Pam Recker; sisters-in-law, Florella Burkle and Anna Burkle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Thekla Burkle; stepmother, Theresa (Goedken) Burkle; husband, Lloyd Recker; son,
Kevin Recker; two infant sisters, Agnes and Anna; sister, Helen (Robert) Sperfslage; and her brothers, Arnold Burkle, Louis Burkle and John (Beta) Burkle.

The family would like to thank all those who were instrumental in Marie’s care, especially the Good Neighbor Home and Care Initiative Hospice.
