Stephen Gene McWilliams – Manchester

Stephen Gene McWilliams, 69, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away, on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

He was born on July 5, 1954, in Bloomfield, the son of Robert and Helen (Leyda) McWilliams. Steve was raised and educated in Manchester and was a 1973 graduate of West Delaware High School.On May 5, 1979, Steve was united in marriage to Carol Penzotti at First Presbyterian Church in Manchester. Three children were blessed to this union. The family resided in Manchester. Steve worked as an estimator for Pro Build and did many construction jobs. Steve was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Manchester Fire Department for 30 years and served as chief for several years. Steve enjoyed fishing, especially his Canadian trips and at the lake in Minnesota with his grandkids, and hunting deer and pheasant. Steve was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Iowa State Cyclones, and the University of Sioux Falls Cougars, where his grandson plays football. He never missed attending any of his grandkids’ games. Above all else, Steve loved his family and cherished spending time with them.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carol McWilliams of Manchester; his three children, Keli McWilliams of Dubuque, Ashley McWilliams of Cedar Rapids, and Brian (Carla) McWilliams of Manchester; three grandsons, Cain, Samuel, and Braxton; siblings, Cheryl McWilliams Wheeler of Marion, Sheila (Tim) Hall of Mankato, Minnesota, Stanley (Mary) McWilliams of Peosta, and Scott McWilliams of Cedar Rapids; sisters-and brothers-inlaw, Roger (Peggy) Penzotti, Linda Penzotti, Robert (Pia) Penzotti, Kathryn (Dennis) Wendling, and Michael
Penzotti; and many nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Helen McWilliams, and parents-in-law, Bob and Loella
Penzotti.

Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Manchester, Iowa, with Rev. Nathan Lamb officiating.

Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester.
