Winter Weather Returns to Eastern Iowa

Seven Inches of Snowfall in Anamosa

Winter weather made a return on Friday, with several inches of snow falling across eastern Iowa.

A Winter Storm Warning was issued for Dubuque, Jones and Linn counties, while a Winter Weather Advisory was in place for the rest of the KMCH listening area. Both were canceled late Friday morning.

Classes at several schools were impacted by the weather. West Delaware held a virtual learning day, while East Buchanan closed and Starmont had a two-hour delay.

The DOT says roads were partly- to mostly-covered with snow throughout the morning on Friday, with poor conditions in those heavier snow bands. Road conditions will be improving throughout the afternoon.

Snowfall totals reported to the National Weather Service show the heaviest snow amounts fell in a band across east-central Iowa. The heavy, wet snow added up to more than seven inches in Anamosa. Prairieburg and Cascade received five inches of snow. Nearly three and a half inches of snow fell in Manchester.

A stronger storm system is forecasted to move into the area later this weekend. The National Weather Service says snow is expected Saturday night into Sunday, with one to two inches of snow possible. Snow will transition to rain Sunday night into Monday, with rain likely through Monday night.
