Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Appoints First Female President

The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight has its first female president. Veteran Navy reservist Lynette Voss has been named to the leadership position.

Voss serves as the organization’s fourth president since its inception in 2009. She will oversee the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight’s Board of Directors, which includes ten additional voting members as well as four board advisors and twelve coordinators.

Voss committed to the Navy reserves as a senior in high school in 1989 and reported to boot camp and IT school in Orlando, FL. Her unit activated during Desert Shield shortly thereafter, but much to her disappointment, she was one of three new members that were not activated. While serving in the active reserves from 1989 to 1995, Voss trained at military bases nationally and internationally, including Chicago, San Diego and Japan. After her active service, Voss served in the inactive reserves from 1995 to 1997.

Voss takes over the role of President of the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight organization from veteran Dick Bell. Since the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight began operations in 2009, 49 flights have transported over 4,000 veterans, along with their guardians, to the nation’s capital to pay their respects at the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam memorials, as well as Arlington National Cemetery.

Voss says is honored to take on the role and looks forward to continuing to lead meaningful flights to Washington DC, giving veterans the opportunity to see the monuments and memorials built in their honor.
