East Main Street Project with Detours Begins in Manchester on Wednesday

Road work begins in Manchester next week.

This year’s Manchester street improvement project will be a continuation of the East Main Street project from two years ago, with improvements on East Main from Bailey Drive east one and a half blocks to almost Stiles Street. 

Manchester City Manager Tim Vick:

For the traffic coming into Manchester from the southeast side of town from Jefferson Road and Highway 20, South Brewer Street will become the detour route.

This year’s Manchester street project was awarded to Top Grade Excavating for about one-point-three million dollars. 

The City says detour signs will go up Monday, with the work zone (including the intersection of East Main and Bailey Drive) closing to traffic on Wednesday. All businesses in the project area will remain open, with signs directing drivers how to enter each business.

The project will likely take five months, with hopes to have the streets back open in time for school and the fall harvest.
