Ceremony Held in Anamosa to Honor Fallen WW2 Soldier

A ceremony to honor a fallen World War Two soldier was held in Anamosa on Saturday.

U.S. Army Pfc. Raymond Schlamp of Dubuque was killed near Dornot, France during the war. He was 28 years old.

Schlamp served in General George Patton’s Third Army in 1941. He and others were killed when their unit came under heavy German fire while crossing the Moselle River near the Horseshoe Woods. His remains were not identified until 2022 and his family more recently received a full briefing on his identification.

A Celebration of Life to honor Schlamp was held Saturday morning at the Lawrence Community Center in Anamosa, with private burial in the Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque.

Governor Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday to honor Schlamp as well.
