KMCH & F&M Bank Honor High School Athletes at Banquet

Anamosa Native & NFL Legend Marshal Yanda Addresses Student Athletes

Local athletes from several schools were honored Wednesday night during the 2nd Annual Standout Performer of the Week Awards Banquet hosted by KMCH and F&M Bank.

The two businesses partnered to start the program two years ago, with twenty-four high school athletes chosen as standout performers in their sport – each receiving their award during the banquet held at Windmill Hill north of Manchester.

This year’s keynote speaker was Marshal Yanda, an Anamosa native who played football at NIACC and then the University of Iowa. Yanda was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2007 NFL draft, where he spent his entire thirteen year career – and won a Super Bowl ring.

Yanda was invited to sit for a conversation with fellow Anamosa native and KMCH Sports Director Jon Swisher and share some words of inspiration to the student athletes, their parents and coaches before the awards were presented.

Starmont wrestler Keaton Moeller says he appreciated Yanda’s message.

Moeller knows firsthand what hard work can bring. In February, he became a state wrestling champion – the first Starmont wrestler to win a title since 1989. Moeller’s history-making run at state led to KMCH and F&M Bank naming him as a Standout Performer of the Week.

The North Linn Girls and Boys Basketball teams also had stellar seasons this school year, with both teams winning state championships. Lynx stars Kamryn Kurt and Ty Pflughaupt were among this year’s Standout Performers of the Week who attended Wednesday night’s banquet.

West Delaware Girls Basketball Coach Brad Wubbena says it was a great night to celebrate our local student athletes.

You can find a list of all of the student athletes we’ve honored this past year as Standout Performers of the Week below – they come from six local schools and cover everything from volleyball to golf.

KMCH and F&M Bank will kick off year three of the Standout Performer of the Week starting next week.
