Marilyn Jean Fredrick – Jesup

Marilyn Jean Fredrick, 85, of Jesup, Iowa, formally a long-term resident of Strawberry Point, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, with her daughter at her bedside. She was born on August 29, 1936, in Independence, the daughter of Paul and Marian (McDowall) Kaiser.  Marilyn was raised and educated in the Stanley area and graduated from Stanley High School in 1954. She attended Allen School of Nursing, University of Northern Iowa, Northeast Iowa Community College and earned her BSN from St. Joseph College, Portland, Maine.

On May 6, 1956, she was united in marriage to Donald Jack Fredrick at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point.  Two daughters were born to this union.  Marilyn worked as a nurse for Dr. Anderson and Dr. Thompson in Strawberry Point for over twenty years and later the Elkader Hospital.

Marilyn and Don were founding members of the Mission in Christ Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. They both enjoyed their winters spent in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. She loved music, playing piano and singing. Marilyn also loved to travel, camping, fishing, reading, playing cards and antiques. Marilyn was also a chapter member of ER PEO, served on the Wilder Museum Board and the Strawberry Point Chamber of Commerce. She was an active member in her church, serving on various committees and the choir.  Marilyn was an advocate for the Deaf-Blind and Congenital Rubella Population.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Mark) Miehe of Jesup; two grandchildren, Kevin Miehe and Kristen Bazaldua; her great-granddaughter, Savannah; her sister, Marlene (Arldon) Brown of Springfield, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald “Don” Fredrick in 2018; her daughter, Brenda Fredrick in 2016; her in-laws, Elmer and Julia Fredrick; and her brother Paul Kaiser, Jr.

Funeral Service:   10:30 a.m., on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Mission in Christ Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point, with Pastor Gary Burkhalter officiating.

Visitation:  4:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa.

Interment:  Cass Township Cemetery – Strawberry Point, Iowa
