Lois Boeding – Hopkinton

Lois Boeding, age 90 of Hopkinton, died Sunday, May 1, 2022 at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester with her family by her side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 Thursday afternoon, May 5, 2022 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Hopkinton with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery.  Fr. Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services.  Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 Wednesday at the church where a parish Vigil Service will begin at 4.  Visitation will resume at 11:30 Thursday until service time.  Thoughts, Memories and Condolences may be left at www.goettschonline.com.

She is survived by 9 children, Mary Ann Blanchard, Hopkinton, Doris (Dick) Cambridge, Cedar Rapids, Dan (Karen) Boeding, Marion, Dennis (Carolyn) Boeding, Anamosa, Susan (Gerald) Beitz, Monticello, Lori (Darrell) Reyner, Monticello, Don (Kathy) Boeding, Dundee, Vic (Leann) Boeding, Manchester, Cheri (Mitch) Orcutt, Delhi,   a son-in-law , Dick Milroy, Monticello, a daughter-in-law,  Patricia Boeding, Hopkinton, 32 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one on the way, 3, great-great-grandchildren and five sisters.  She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, a son, David and a daughter, Joyce Milroy, 3 grandchildren,  2  son-in-law’s, Gerald and Tom and 7 siblings.

Lois Mary Kirby was born March 13, 1932 at Iowa City, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Francis and Artezena Carradus Kirby. Lois stayed with her grandmother and worked at a café so she could graduate from the Hopkinton High School.  Lois Kirby married Francis Boeding on November 28, 1950 at Immaculate Conception Church, Masonville, Iowa. In 1951 the couple moved to Hopkinton.  While raising her 11 children Lois also worked at the MarDon Dance Hall, she cooked at Harrys Tavern, operated  the linotype machine for the  Hopkinton Leader, and helped her daughter Mary Ann at the Showroom. Lois and Francis were best known for operating  a wonderful day care in their home for many years.
