John LeRoy Weis passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the age of 82, after a brief illness at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa.
He was born to John Jacob and Alma (Lovin) Weis on August 10, 1940, at Booth Memorial Hospital in Goodland, Kansas. John attended Edison Community School and graduated in 1958. He later went to telegraph operator school in Pueblo, Colorado. After graduation he went to work for Rock Island Railroad as an agent and telegraph operator.
In 1962, John settled in Guthrie Center and began working for Guthrie County Road Department as well as purchasing an acreage where he raised feeder pigs and cattle. John retired from the county in 1998 and moved to Delaware County. In 2003, he was united in marriage to the love of his live, Roberta (Timmerman) Lewis.
John enjoyed fishing, traveling in the mountains of South Dakota and the western United States. He also enjoyed woodworking and remodeling. John completely remodeled his Guthrie Center home and when he moved to Manchester, he rebuilt Bert’s kitchen and bathroom. He also made numerous pieces of beautiful furniture.
John is survived by his wife, Roberta Weis; two daughters, Brenda Broyer, of Grimes and Kim Pruitt, of Stewart; six stepchildren, Judy (Gary) Dittrick of Manchester, Julie (Dave) Steinbron of Jesup, Kenny (Jill) Lewis of Manchester, Brenda (Mark) Lewis-Morehouse of Evansdale, Lynn (Kim) Lewis of Quasquetion, and Jim (Toni) Lewis of Manchester; 19 step-grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by his sister, Lena Buttler of St. Frances, Kansas and sister-in-law, Jan Weis of Goodland, Kansas and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Brad Weis in 2006, his brother, Don and sister, Mary.
