Rural Hopkinton Teen Killed in X-47 Collision

A rural Hopkinton teen was killed in a motorcycle/truck collision on X-47 on Sunday.

It happened shortly after 12 pm in the 2800 block northeast of Hopkinton. The Iowa State Patrol says 15-year old Caleb Jurgens was driving a 1967 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on X-47 when he crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck head-on.

Jurgens’ motorcycle came to rest in the roadway. The pickup truck came to rest in the east ditch.

Jurgens was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, 24-year old Austin Schwendinger of Epworth, and his passenger, 25-year old Kaitlyn Schwendinger of Epworth, suffered minor injuries. The State Patrol says they were not transported to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Hopkinton Fire/EMS, Leonard-Muller Funeral Home and Tegeler’s Towing assisted at the scene.
